What is the ideal home for a Scorpio?
Our new monthly series explores how your astrological sign can influence your interior design. For Scorpios, an intimate and private retreat is essential, writes Jill Krasny.
Furnishing a home involves many choices, from furniture to accessories, and the process can quickly become complex. While some people turn to trends, astrology offers a surprising perspective. Understanding the preferences associated with your sign can help you create a space that truly reflects who you are. As Scorpio season approaches (23 October – 21 November), the question arises: what makes an interior designed for a Scorpio so appealing?
‘Scorpios value their privacy, and their home should reflect that,’ explains Anthony Perrotta, an astrologer and interior designer based in Providence, Rhode Island. This need for retreat translates into spaces designed for contemplation and comfort. Certain iconic properties, such as the Mount Veeder estate in Napa Valley, offer a perfect example of a private retreat: set on 130 acres, this vast estate designed by award-winning British architect David Connor combines modernism, art deco and deconstructivism. A terrace at the top of a tower offers 360-degree views of the landscape, a peaceful place to escape from the world.
Scorpios also appreciate warm and comfortable spaces, where lighting plays a central role. Soft lighting, punctuated by candles, immediately creates an intimate and dramatic atmosphere. ‘Add varied textures and materials that are pleasant to the touch, and you have the ideal interior for a Scorpio,’ says Perrotta.
The colour palettes also reflect this taste for a cosy atmosphere: dark, deep shades contrasted with lighter tones work particularly well. ‘Whether it's black paired with wood or dark grey with natural textures, you need a sense of richness and depth,’ adds Courtney Valiquette, an interior designer based in Kelowna, Canada. The house we are offering on the heights of Lake Annecy in Pringy perfectly embodies this energy: its deep, woody tones combined with dark accents create a refined and enveloping atmosphere.
Textures are just as important. Scorpios favour materials that are soft and sensual to the touch: velvet, leather, stone, but also faux fur and suede. ‘Layering is essential,’ emphasises Valiquette. Thick blankets on the sofa, knitted throws, sheepskin rugs: everything contributes to creating depth and a feeling of comfort. Many properties in our portfolio, such as certain contemporary villas, showcase these rich textures in their living rooms and bedrooms.
The Scorpios' ability to transform themselves profoundly, which Anthony Perrotta describes as people who are constantly reinventing themselves, makes modular furniture particularly suitable. Pieces that can be easily transformed or whose function can evolve are a perfect match for their dynamic lifestyle. Several houses in our catalogue offer modular solutions or flexible layouts to meet this need.
Finally, this sign associated with mysticism and introspection needs a private place to retreat from the world. A reading corner, a meditation room, or simply a space separate from common living areas provides this essential refuge. Iconic examples include the meditation room at Villa Corazon in Lake Travis, Texas, which perfectly illustrates this spirit of personal retreat. ‘Even a discreet nook or separate room can provide the privacy they seek,’ concludes Perrotta.
